About the role

As a Database Engineer, you will be a member of the development squad who works closely with a team of developers and gets more involved in design decisions, giving advice on performance and writing good SQL. The database engineer supports the application development lifecycle and focuses on tasks related to building an effective, usable database environment to support the creation and maintenance of the applications. As programs and systems are being built, the database engineer is there to lend assistance and support – which includes building and maintaining the proper database structures required by the applications.


Your Responsibilities

  • Setup SQL/Database Development Coding guidelines for development teams
  • Own review process of the code going from development test and handover to production DB
  • Ensure changes have no or minimal service or performance impact
  • Managing database performance issues and data migrations
  • Supporting any new data structure changes and leading changes with development squads
  • Work together with cloud DBA’s to ensure health of databases, performance and adequate monitoring is in place
  • Contribute to overall cloud center of excellence and consume tooling and automation that is produced to manage databases
  • Production database refresh to lower environment
    • Data anonymisation
    • Data restore on preprod, integration and Test DB ‘script
    • Golden data actualization for lower environment
  • Schema changes and DDL deployments (through automated deploys, scripts
  • Data purging, periodic clean-up and archival, including the implementation of automated data retention and privacy policies
  • Database user and access management to databases



  • In depth knowledge and hands on expertise in writing SQL code
  • Expertise working with MS SQL and MySQL databases
  • Expertise in troubleshooting and managing code related performance issues, including optimization of indexes and advice on writing performant queries
  • Strong scripting skills, i.e., Powershell, Bash etc
  • BSc level technical degree required; Computer Science or Engineering preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across all internal organizations.
  • 5+ years of experience in related roles
