About the role

We are seeking an experienced Software Engineering Manager to build and shape our engineering team, that designs, builds, tests, delivers and supports PARK NOW’s automotive products and services.

This is a hands-on role requiring strong technical and leadership skills. Your will have the opportunity to hire and develop your team of 7+ (2021) high performing engineers and manage our near-shoring supplier.

You will be working within an interdisciplinary squad and along tech architects to ensure a high-performing team that consistently and iteratively delivers high-impact, high-quality work. In order to do so, you will keep strong alignments with management in analysis of short- and long-range business goals and requirements.

You are the go-to person for day to day challenges within the team, finding the answers and solving issues. As part of the role you will also support your team to achieve their individual development goals, set key staff metrics and ensure KPIs are met. Building strong relationships outside of the core team is key, making sure your team always has the right information and tool set and direction, supporting and guiding engineers on best practices ensuring the correct tools are always available.

The successful candidate will be contributing to management best practices: drive technical initiatives that raise the bar for our engineering practices and helping us to become an exceptional place to work for the ambitious, highly motivated people that we hire.

You will report into the Director Technology.

Responsibilities

• Share line management duties for development team resources which includes recruiting, regular one-on-ones, relationship building, objectives setting, appraisals, signing off holiday and everything else to do with successfully managing direct reports and allowing them to deliver their best
• Planning, monitoring and reporting of progress internally to ensure meet customer requirements; this includes agile sprint planning and daily stand ups and full documentation of all stages
• Accountable for delivery of our solid reliable platform through all environments, Test, Pre-Production through to running in Production (DevOps model)
• Build relationships with the rest of the organization, to make sure initiatives are aligned and your team always has the right information and tools to do their best work
• Support communities of engineers to build on best practice and continuously look to improve what we do and how we do it
• In conjunction with our technical architects carry out decision making on system architecture and implementation issues, evaluate new technologies and integrate them into the product
• Technical project management; Ensure that the development team meet all agreed deliveries for quality, definition, specification, timescales and budget
• Manage relationship and alignment with our near-shoring supplier teams, assist with staffing of remote team members
• Represent the development team when liaising with other internal departments

Requirements

You’re an enthusiastic and structured innovative thinker who never settles for ‘good enough’. You’re driven, analytical, flexible and critical. And you’re a great communicator. You have:

• Experience managing the performance and development of 5+ high-performing engineers
• Strong software development background (preferably .NET C#). Ideally you have previously worked as a software engineer at a senior level and developed yourself into managerial level.
• Cloud technologies are well understood, you bring experience of working within AWS. Experience of micro services architecture (Kubernetes containerization) highly desired.
• Good experience required in REST APIs and API integrations
• You have an empathetic leadership style and you build strong, effective relationships
• Strong attention to detail, ensuring documentation is kept up to date and team standards of documentation is kept high
• Good prioritization and time management skills; You have the ability to support the preparation of our technology roadmap.
• Ability to perform code reviews, when needed
• Experience with continuous delivery CI/CD pipelines, Git/Branching strategies, TDD/Unit and integration testing
• Management of Jira/Confluence working within SCRUM type methodologies
• Excellent communication skills. (German and English)
